Physical Health Impact of Trauma in Women

PTSD is twice as common in women than in men. Approximately 1 in 10 women will develop PTSD in their lifetime, and PTSD is more severe and impairing in women than in men. Additionally, a number of physical health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, differ in their prevalence and manifestations across the sexes. Our work adopts a women’s health focus in order to understand how trauma exposure and PTSD relate to adverse physical health outcomes in women.
